MAX MCGEE'S PROFILE
I CAN'T NOT MAKE GAMES.
I have enough lockerspace to hold an episode of Friends.
"We'll make a toast to absent friends and better days,
To remembering and being remembered as brave
And not as a bunch of whining jerks!
Don't lose your nerve.
Do not go straight
You must testify
(or I'm going to come to your house and punch you in the mouth)
cause CLOWNS MUST STAND."
- TW/IFS, "All The World Is A Stage Dive"

Dark Souls III -> Bitten by the hype?
What causes us to stop making our projects?
I am one of the rare chosen few that actually FINISHED some games back in the day, so I can answer this:
* The lure of starting over with a shiny new project using everything you've learned and avoiding all of the mistakes you've found out about and maybe a shiny new engine too.
* General despair.
* The overwhelming feeling that even if you do finish no one will care and you won't be able to market the game for shit and no one will play it so what does it matter because the graphics aren't pretty or you aren't popular or whatever or if they do play it they'll just savage it critically even though you thought it was really good or you wouldn't have released it, and the only reward you receive for your hard work laboring to build something will be emotional pain.
* Lack of financial compensation or adequate free time.
I've bolded the two that have been major factors for me over the years, but all four have applied.

People that continue to work on projects that probably are a lost cause.
I think it's kind of sad but then again a product is only truly a lost cause if you don't work on it. But if you get satisfaction from it then frankly it's not even sad.
For instance: I have not worked on Backstage 2 in the last three years, but that is probably more and not less sad than if I had worked on it in the last three years and it still was not done. By some narrow margin. (The terrible irony is that Backstage 2 has been like 60% done since 2007-2008 and that I got it up to around 70% done in 2010-2012 and I just haven't been able to clamp down and finish the last 30% or even make one iota of progress on it since I moved into my new place.)
This topic is making me feel depressed so I'll just go with the generic sentiment that if you enjoy it, it's not a waste of time. (Which applies to most things, but not mobile gaming or masturbation. Those fall into "it's a waste of time but it's not hurting anybody".)

My lazyness in game development.

I get by on an obsessive work drive, goalposts, and by making sure I'm doing some sort of gamemake daily, even if that means I'm cutting into game/movie/other fun time.
I also plan a lot of the game in advance, especially the overall story structure and game world. Those remain pretty solid, and if I get the urge to make something different, I open a new document, write down the ideas, and save them for a future game.
I think picking projects of the right size is important, too. Making a game that takes you multiple years will probably bring on a lot of creative fatigue. Find a length that works for both you and the sort of game you want to make ^_^
I wish I could rent your work ethic.
Let's Discuss Fallout 4 - SPOILERS (obviously)
so about 2-3 weeks ago I lost all interest in this game and abruptly stopped playing it for as far as I could tell no discernible reason
has this happened to anyone else?
am I going to die?

Just let me leave this here. I made the mistake of watching this with my father while jacked up on some heavy pain killers post surgery... ENJOY!

Xenoblade Chronicles X
this is a pretty fine nuanced point of English, but yeah when you say something is "adult themed", that does kinda imply porn as people use language nowadays.
i mean, i don't assume a videogame is for kids, i assume videogames are "for adults" by default. because it's not the 90s. but maybe it's different over in nintendo land? it's a really weird statement all and all because there are obviously hundreds or thousands of "adult" marketed games that are cool enough to buy.
